Solar cells will become a dominant energy source of the future. Important photovoltaic (PV) technologies are crystalline silicon cells (c-Si), thin-film solar cells (PV TF), dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) and organic photovoltaic cells (OPV).
All these solar cell types compete with respect to their ability to improve energy efficiency and continuously lower production costs. Merck is promoting this development by supplying innovative, easy-to-use materials and formulations for next-generation solar cells - products which enable our customers to improve cell performance and to save costs in cell manufacturing. Merck focuses on novel materials, formulations and process chemicals for both printing and chemical coating technologies used in solar cell manufacture.
Research and development
Furthermore, Merck is constantly developing new materials for next-generation solar cells. In addition to our activities in crystalline solar cells, our development program focuses on printed nanoparticle formulations for inorganic thin-film cells and on advanced organic materials for novel cell concepts.
